Successful modernisation and final handover of four premium scenic lifts at The Ark, Hammersmith.
Over the years, London has seen the development of many architecturally stunning buildings, one of which is The Ark, completed in 1992 for Swedish developers Ake Larson and Pronator. The Ark, now just over thirty years old, has recently undergone a major refurbishment which has included a significant modernisation of the building’s four 10-stop feature scenic lifts.
Temple Lifts won the lift modernisation project award in 2021 following on from a highly detailed tendering process and several visits to The Ark, to meet with the building’s Maintenance and Management Consultants to discuss the project and undertake the required surveys.
Although a significant modernisation was planned, the lift cars and car doors would remain but benefit from all new car door operators and landing door gear with Halo touchless car operating systems. Temple Lifts were also replacing all four lift controllers with Thames Valley Ethos II systems, including new shaft wiring and safety gear. The project also included the replacement of the existing lift traction motors.
The modernisation was undertaken whilst the building was partly occupied with our engineers taking great care to overcome any disruption and inconvenience. Additionally and to ensure lift availability for the building’s occupants, we always retained at least one in service.
The initial handover took place in late 2022, with the formal handover occurring in February 2023.
