Olympia Lift Upgrade including building works
Background
Olympia, London also known as the Olympia Exhibition Centre, dates back to 1866 and is one of the UK’s best known and loved exhibition venues. To help facilitate improved access for exhibitors, the Olympia management team wanted to have a new ground floor entrance for an existing heavy-duty goods lift. As a result of the long-standing relationship Tempe Lifts has with the Olympia management team, we were asked to assist with a solution for improving access to the goods lift that was used by exhibitors. We were aware of the issues with access, as the lift was under a maintenance agreement with Temple Lifts. On of our project team responsible for the contract with Olympia, visited the site to undertake a detailed survey. With this complete, we submitted a detailed tender which included new landing and lift car shutter gates, and the building works required to create the new entrance and finishing of the surfaces of the 750mm thick wall.

Our work
Temple Lifts’ Engineering Department managed the building works, whilst local engineers operating from our Bromley offices, undertook the installation of the new bespoke, robust galvanised steel manual shutter entrance. On completion, we fully tested the operation of the doors and returned the lift into service to provide Olympia’s employees, exhibitors, and contractors an easy-to-use and extremely safe entry point. The goods lift continues to be maintained under our lift service agreement.
